2 teens stabbed in vicious NYC subway brawl: cops

A brutal altercation erupted in a Bronx subway station in the early hours of Friday, resulting in two teenagers being stabbed, according to police reports.

The incident took place on the southbound No. 6 train platform at Castle Hill Avenue around 12:25 a.m. A group of young individuals was engaged in a fight when a 17-year-old girl was stabbed in the right knee. Additionally, a 19-year-old man sustained stab wounds to his left arm and right leg, as well as being struck in the face with a bottle during the scuffle.

Both victims were promptly transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition. The perpetrators, described as three teens – one boy wearing a Nike hoodie and a blue surgical mask, and two girls, one in all black and the other in all gray, managed to flee the scene before authorities arrived.

The violent incident occurred shortly after city officials announced a decrease in subway crime rates below pre-pandemic levels. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch attributed this milestone to the increased presence of police officers in the subway system. According to Tisch, major offenses in the subways have decreased by 18%, marking the second-lowest level in 27 years.

The New York City Mayor, Eric Adams, and Commissioner Tisch addressed the media during a news conference to discuss the positive impact of the heightened police presence on ensuring commuter safety in the subway system. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in maintaining public safety and security in urban transit environments.
