Burger King former employee gets GoFundme retirement of 400K
Earlier this year, Burger King employee Kevin Ford celebrated 27 years of perfect attendance. A video of Ford celebrating his milestone became popular on the internet. Unfortunately, it didn’t gain views praising an elaborate setup thanking him for his dedication, but rather for a lack thereof. A longtime Burger King staff member at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, 54-year-old, Ford received a bag filled with a movie ticket, candy, a Starbucks cup, a lanyard, two pens, and two keychains for his service in the video. The millions of people who saw the video thought the gesture didn’t measure up, although he seemed grateful.
Attention was gained by Ford’s humble attitude. He received a more appropriate gift for his loyalty shortly after. His daughter, Seryna Ford, started a GoFundMe campaign detailing Ford’s great character. The amount of money in the account rose quickly to $200K, and as the story of the gracious employee spread, the account reached almost $400K!
On the fundraising page, Ford’s daughter said that he began working at the job 27 years ago when he gained custody of her and her older sister.
“She added that her father stayed at Burger King because ‘it provided great health insurance,'” The benefits allowed him to get his four daughters through high school and college.
Seryna said that donations to her father were welcome but not necessarily needed, toward the end of her statement.
If folks donated any money, she mentioned her father would be close to retirement and love to see his grandchildren.
Prayers for more Ford cars were answered with a surplus. He reunited with his daughter and three grandchildren on Today.
He was overwhelmed by the kindness and support he was receiving after not seeing them for several years.
“My dad deserves the world,” said Ford’s daughter during the touching segment. I was given the world by him. I am the person I am today because of my dad.
Ford stated that he was using the money as a college fund for his grandchildren at that time.
As one of the show’s “Can’t Miss People of 2022,” he made another appearance on Today.
“My primary mission with the money is to pay it forward,” Ford stated, with GoFundMe donations at nearly $400,000.
He said that when he goes to the store, he often sees someone shopping who appears to be a single mother, and he pays for her food. I’m excited about spreading the love and showing people that the human spirit is still alive, and that I’m proof of it.
Ford has been able to take his grandchildren on dream vacations. He’s even been able to check off his bucket-list destination of Mount Everest from his list.
Even though he’s preparing for retirement, Ford is still a loyal employee at Burger King. He’s only missed shifts for things like his first appearance on national television.
