9 Killed In Israeli Strikes Amid Ceasefire, Says Gaza Civil Defence Agency

Gaza’s civil defence agency reported that nine individuals, including journalists, were killed in Israeli airstrikes in the northern region on Saturday. Hamas condemned the attack as a violation of the fragile ceasefire agreement.

The Israeli military stated that they targeted “two terrorists operating a drone that posed a threat to IDF troops in Beit Lahia.” They further mentioned hitting additional individuals who collected the drone equipment and entered a vehicle.

Following the strikes, Hamas accused Israel of breaching the truce deal in Gaza. Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem called the incident a “horrific massacre” targeting journalists and humanitarian workers.

Local media director Ismail Thawabteh confirmed that the journalists were killed while documenting a Ramadan dinner in Beit Lahia using a drone. Despite their clear work, they were hit by two airstrikes from the Israeli forces.

Israel has been conducting frequent airstrikes in Gaza since early March, primarily targeting militants planting explosive devices. The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, effective since January 19, remains intact with discussions ongoing for its extension.

The initial phase of the truce concluded on March 1, with both parties avoiding a full-scale conflict. The situation continues to be monitored without a definitive agreement on the ceasefire extension.
