Tables Turned? Elon Musk’s Twitter Slapped Biden With a ‘Fact-Check’ About Corporate Taxes

[ad_1]

To quote Michael Scott of “The Office” – “Well, well … How the turn tables.”

President Biden on Friday posted a tweet regarding “facts” about corporations making billions without paying taxes and how his so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ “puts an end to” it, earning him a fact-checking label from Twitter which provided context.

“Let me give you the facts,” Biden or somebody running his social media account wrote. “In 2020, 55 corporations made $40 billion. And they paid zero in federal taxes.”

“My Inflation Reduction Act puts an end to this.”

Twitter, newly owned by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, added a warning stating, “Readers added context they thought people may want to know.”

Biden Gets a Fact-Check From Twitter

Twitter added a fact-check label for Biden’s tweet pointing out that only 14 out of the 55 corporations being referenced would be impacted by his tax law – just over 25%.

So his tweet was one-quarter accurate, likely a much higher rate than most of the President’s “facts.”

The context added to Biden’s tweet includes a link to a Washington Post fact check on a similar claim he made on October 20th.

“Here’s the deal: If you spent $3 on your coffee this morning, that’s more than what 55 major corporations paid in taxes in recent years,” he wrote. “It’s wrong — and it’s got to change.”

In eight days time, you can already see the difference between pre-Musk Twitter and post-Musk Twitter – Balance.

Although, if Twitter truly wanted to add context that could have noted the fact that the ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ does not, in fact, reduce inflation.

And ‘Journalists’ Were Worried

President Biden appears to have been hit with a fact-check back in September as well, prompting the post to be deleted and reworded.

However, those labels were few and far between, as opposed to another President you may know.

Biden oftentimes got away with tweeting information that was definitively false without any repercussions or ‘context’ added.

Does Twitter’s label for Biden signal a new era in which President Biden will be held to an equally high standard as his predecessor? Or is it a one-off coincidence?

Either way, just a week ago, The Political Insider reported on journalists and ‘experts’ who were openly fretting that with Musk in charge, Twitter would have a difficult time censoring individuals on the social media platform.

Just imagine if the 2020 presidential election saw Twitter slapping Democrats and media outlets with ‘context’ when they tried to squash the Hunter Biden story as ‘Russian disinformation.’
