Wendy Williams loses salary from popular show
Recent court documents reveal that Wendy Williams’ salary would be cut off or $55,000 per episode if she couldn’t host her nationally syndicated TV show due to health reasons during its 2021–2022 season.
The U.S. Sun obtained a court filing in which Williams agreed to distribute monthly payments to her former husband and business partner, Kevin Hunter, following their divorce. A motion filed by the celebrity gossip host’s attorney stated that she has not had any income from The Wendy Williams Show since last October, but he is now demanding to get the money.
“On October 15, 2021, the plaintiff was informed by Talk WW that her contract was being suspended and that no compensation would accrue or be payable to the plaintiff for the duration of the plaintiff’s disability and incapacity,” her attorney wrote.
The 52-year-old’s lawyer quoted the settlement agreement that she and her Hunter made in January 2020 in addition.
“If Talk WW doesn’t renew [Plaintiffs] contract or if it’s otherwise suspended, canceled, or terminated and [Plaintiff] doesn’t have another television show that’s paying her an equivalent salary, [Defendant] understands and agrees that all Severance Payments will be subject to termination or modification,” the former talk show host’s attorney said.
Her attorney stated that Williams had not been paid in over a year and that “she presently has no other television show being aired and paying her any income, let alone an equivalent salary.”
She was hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation a few days after her absence from the show began in September, the beginning of the fall 2021 season. Earlier this year, in January, Wells Fargo allegedly froze her accounts due to her not being mentally stable. The former radio personality was forced to enter a financial conservatorship following this decision.
She went to rehab for two months in Malibu, California, to treat “severe alcoholism,” although the former radio personality denied having issues with alcohol and said she was living a sober lifestyle. There were, however, several times she was allegedly intoxicated in public.
Debmar-Mercury made a public announcement that The Wendy Williams Show would come to an end in June, after the show was absent for the entire 2021–2022 season. Actress Sherri Shepherd was offered the timeslot for her new morning show to replace the show on the Fox network.
