Couple scams Walmart in Ga. town out of thousands in gift cards and credit card purchases
According to WRDW News, a couple in Grovetown, Georgia tricked a Walmart cashier into giving them $6,400 worth of gift cards and merchandise.
A man and woman went into the Walmart at Interstate 20 and Lewiston Road on Nov. 30, picked out several expensive items, and then went to the cashier to check out, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
The couple bought expensive merchandise and gift cards from the cashier. The couple confused the Walmart cashier by asking them to use the cash button on the register in order for their credit card to work properly, according to authorities. The maneuver caused the credit card not to be charged.

The pair also asked the cashier to use the ‘cash’ button on the register in order for their credit card to work, according to deputies. The sentence could be rewritten as:
“This allowed the register to process the sale as if cash was being paid, so the credit card company was not charged.”
The couple allegedly received $3,000 in gift cards and $3,400 worth of merchandise for free. The couple’s cash/credit card maneuver was called a “theft by deception” by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
19-year-old Jaylan Griggs from Flint, Michigan was identified as the male suspect on Dec. 8. They are still searching for the female suspect, who has not been identified yet.
Back in April, a man tried to steal a cart full of bananas worth $40 from the Grovetown Walmart store, making it newsworthy. Security was able to stop the man from leaving the store with 125 bananas in his cart.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office released surveillance video images of the couple leaving the Grovetown Walmart. They are asking anyone with pertinent information about the crime to contact Investigator Leigh Fletcher at 706-541-2800.
