A disturbing TikTok trend is on the rise in which kids prank their parents by telling them someone close to them – or a famous celebrity – has died.
The prank has gained traction on social media, where clout chasing for likes and views takes precedence over a parent’s feelings, which became collateral damage in Angela Bassett’s case.
Slater Vance, the 16-year-old son of the 64-year-old iconic Black Panther actress, upset his mother with a careless joke that Michael B. Jordan had died – except it was a lie. He is doing fine.
Slater says in the 20-second clip, “Did you hear this: Michael B. Jordan dead at 35?”
“Unh-uh,” said Bassett with a look of shock and surprise, clutching her chest as she started walking toward her son. Courtney B. Vance could be heard saying, “Stop it.” You are playing.
After Jordan’s emotional apology video, it seems that Bassett tore her son a new one, as he issued a heartfelt sorry to his mom, dad, and the Jordan family.
“I’m sorry for being part of something that’s hurtful,” Slater said in a video shared on December 31. I want to apologize to Michael B. Jordan and his family for my disrespectful actions. Michael is an idol of mine, and I didn’t mean to disrespect him or his family.
“I don’t wish any bad ramifications of my actions upon his family nor my parents,” he continued. “They deserve none of the backlash.” “I hope this can be a teaching lesson to anyone else who uses social media as a tool and a source of entertainment to truly understand that your actions can have consequences that extend beyond you.”
Slater said, “I’m sorry for any pain I caused Mr. Jordan, my parents, or anyone else who was involved in this. I’m really, truly sorry.”
Given that Angela Bassett had to deal with the momentous loss of Chadwick Boseman, this prank is especially not funny.
But it’s clear that Angela and Courtney got him straight!
