On Monday afternoon, the San Jose Police Department announced that San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu had been arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence.
After police were called to a home to investigate a domestic violence report, Omenihu, 25, was arrested in San Jose. Omenihu’s girlfriend, whose name is being withheld, alleged that Omenihu had pushed her to the ground during an argument when they arrived. She complained of pain in her arm to the police, but declined medical treatment and the officers saw no visible injuries.
Omenihu cooperated with police, giving them a statement (which has not been released). He was served with an emergency protection order in addition to being arrested, requiring him to stay away from his girlfriend. He posted bail and left police custody after he was booked.
As of now, Omenihu has not been charged with any crimes. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office will decide whether he will be in the near future.
The Eagles will host the Niners in the NFC championship game on Sunday. A one-sentence statement released Tuesday said that they are still in the “information gathering” phase and have not made any decision about whether Omenihu, a key member of the defense, will play.
