Gunman live-streamed mass shooting at a Louisville bank that left 5 dead and 8 injured

Authorities have reported that a 25-year-old bank employee, identified as Connor Sturgeon, opened fire at Old National Bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky on Monday morning, resulting in five deaths and eight injuries. Four of the deceased victims were identified as Joshua Barrick, 40; Juliana Farmer, 45; Tommy Elliott, 63; and James Tutt, 64. Later that evening, one of the injured victims, whose name was given as Eckert, also passed away, bringing the death toll to five.

Sturgeon live-streamed the attack and was killed by police after a shootout that left two officers injured, one critically. The gunman had left behind a note for his parents and a friend indicating his intention to carry out the shooting, according to a source familiar with the investigation. The attack occurred during a morning employee meeting, with some attending in person and others virtually, and the shooter began firing at about 8:30 a.m., 30 minutes before the bank opened to the public.

First responders were able to arrive at the scene within three minutes of being dispatched and engaged in a shootout with the attacker. Mayor Craig Greenberg commended the bravery of the first responders, stating that their actions had undoubtedly saved lives.

Following the shooting, a significant police presence was deployed to the downtown area, and shattered glass was strewn at the bank’s entrance. This incident marks the 146th mass shooting of the year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, and has once again plunged the community into mourning while lawmakers continue to debate possible solutions to gun violence.
