Monica, the Grammy award-winning singer, displayed her fearless side during a live performance at the Detroit Riverfront Music Festival on Saturday, July 22. The incident occurred when she allegedly witnessed a man getting physical with a woman in the crowd, prompting her to take immediate action.

In a now-viral video, Monica can be seen stopping her show and addressing the man directly, telling him, “Don’t you hit her like that.” Encouraging other concertgoers to help, she called for the man to be removed from the crowd. However, not content with just that, Monica, whom some fans have affectionately dubbed “Goonica,” decided to personally intervene.

Leaving the stage, the singer jumped into the crowd to address the situation head-on, passionately asserting, “We don’t even play like that. That’s a lady.”

Despite the minor scuffle that ensued, the show resumed, with Monica apologizing multiple times to the audience afterward. The Detroit Riverfront Music Festival spokesperson later released a statement, expressing gratitude to Monica for her courageous actions.

In the statement, they praised Monica’s commitment to the safety and respect of her fans, highlighting that she is not only an extraordinary talent but an extraordinary individual as well. The festival organizers also condemned violence, especially against women, and assured that they were cooperating with local law enforcement to ensure accountability for the individual involved.

Fans who witnessed the incident applauded Monica for her strong stance in protecting women both in her music and real life. One fan tweeted, “I love her even more. That’s a great reason to call out something from the stage,” while another referred to her 2003 hit song, saying, “Just to show you Monica not having that! #SoGone.”
