California to Issue Formal Apology for Slavery as Part of Reparations Initiative

California is preparing to issue a formal apology for its role in slavery and racial discrimination as part of a broader push for reparations. The apology is a key component of a larger reparations effort aimed at addressing the long-standing impact of slavery on African Americans in the state.

Although California entered the Union as a free state in 1850, its history includes discriminatory policies that oppressed Black communities, including segregation, housing discrimination, and unequal access to education and employment.
