Seahawks signing DeMarcus Lawrence on $42 million contract

The Seattle Seahawks have been making waves this offseason with their latest signing of defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence to a three-year, $42 million contract. Lawrence, who spent 11 years with the Dallas Cowboys, brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Seahawks’ defense.

During his time with the Cowboys, Lawrence earned four Pro Bowl appearances and showcased his prowess with back-to-back double-digit sack seasons in 2017 and 2018. Known for his ability to pressure quarterbacks, Lawrence recorded an impressive 154 pressures since the 2018 season.

Unfortunately, Lawrence’s 2024 season was cut short due to a foot injury sustained in a game against the Giants in Week 4. Despite this setback, Lawrence’s track record of 61.5 sacks and 450 tackles speaks to his impact on the field.

The addition of Lawrence fills the void left by Dre’Mont Jones, who was released by the Seahawks last week. With Lawrence on board, Seattle looks to strengthen their defense and build a formidable lineup for the upcoming season.

In addition to signing Lawrence, the Seahawks have also retained linebacker Ernest Jones IV and defensive tackle Jarran Reed. The team has been busy reshaping their roster, including trading quarterback Geno Smith to the Raiders and securing a new signal-caller in Sam Darnold with a lucrative three-year, $100.5 million contract.

Furthermore, Seattle made significant changes to their receiving corps by trading DK Metcalf to the Steelers and parting ways with Tyler Lockett. These moves indicate a strategic shift in the team’s composition and signal a new era for the Seahawks as they gear up for the challenges of the upcoming season.
