Selena killer Yolanda Saldívar set for parole hearing after 30 years

Yolanda Saldívar, the woman serving a life sentence for the 1995 murder of Selena Quintanilla-Perez, also known as the “Queen of Tejano,” is awaiting a decision on her parole. The tragic incident took place on March 31, 1995, when Saldívar fatally shot the 23-year-old superstar during a confrontation in a hotel room in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Selena suspected Saldívar of embezzling money from her and had planned to fire her. However, Saldívar now claims that Selena’s aggressive demeanor during the confrontation contributed to the escalation of the situation. According to a family member, Saldívar believes that if Selena had approached her differently, the tragic event could have been avoided.

Despite maintaining that Selena’s death was accidental and that she had intended to take her own life after the incident, Saldívar was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles has been reviewing her case, with a hearing scheduled for the end of the month to determine whether she will be granted parole.

Throughout her time in prison, Saldívar has maintained that she did not receive a fair trial and has appealed her conviction multiple times without success. She has expressed her desire to live with relatives and find employment if released, although concerns remain about her ability to secure a job given her past.

Despite her hopes for parole, Saldívar remains a contentious figure among fellow inmates, with reports of threats against her life. Selena’s family has also received letters from inmates expressing a desire to seek revenge on Saldívar. The tension surrounding the case continues to linger, even as Saldívar awaits a decision on her future.
