Aisha Taylor Issa: Building a Legacy of Faith, Resilience, and Sisterhood Through The Sistah Shop

If you’ve ever walked into The Sistah Shop, you know it’s more than just a store. It’s a movement, a sanctuary, and a love letter to Black women entrepreneurs. And at the heart of it all is Aisha Taylor Issa—a woman whose faith, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her community have built something truly special.

Aisha isn’t just running a business. She’s creating space—space for Black women to be seen, supported, and celebrated. And even as she transitions from a brick-and-mortar storefront to a fully e-commerce platform, her mission remains the same: to uplift Black women in business and ensure they have the opportunities they deserve.

I recently sat down with Aisha to talk about her journey, and let me tell you—this sister is walking in her purpose.

A Vision Rooted in Faith

For Aisha, entrepreneurship isn’t just about business—it’s about faith. Before launching The Sistah Shop, she was an ordained minister, and that calling is woven into everything she does.

“Entrepreneurship is my ministry,” Aisha shared. “It’s about lifting up our sisters, helping them see what’s possible.”

Her journey started in 2017 with the Sisters in Business Expo, a series of trade shows designed to give Black women a platform to showcase their products. What she saw at these events was undeniable: talented Black women with incredible businesses, but without the retail opportunities they deserved.

So she decided to do something about it.

By 2021, The Sistah Shop had physical locations in both New Jersey and Atlanta, bringing Black women-owned brands directly to customers. The shop became a go-to destination for everything from skincare to home décor—each product telling the story of a Black woman’s creativity, passion, and hard work.

The Power of Community

One of the most beautiful things about The Sistah Shop is the sense of community it fosters. It’s not just about selling products; it’s about creating a space where Black women feel valued and empowered.

Aisha told me about a day last year when a group of Black shoppers unexpectedly flooded the store, buying up products and turning what could have been a regular afternoon into an unforgettable moment.

“I had no idea they were coming,” Aisha said, still in awe of what happened that day. “It reminded me that when we come together, we can do amazing things.”

That moment went viral, but more importantly, it was a testament to the power of Black support. It’s one thing to say we need to uplift each other—it’s another thing to actually do it.

And that’s exactly what Aisha has been doing since day one.

A Shift, Not an End

Running a storefront is no small feat, especially in today’s economy. This February, Aisha made the tough decision to close the physical locations of The Sistah Shop and transition to a fully online platform. But if you think that means she’s slowing down, think again.

“It’s not about giving up,” she said. “It’s about moving smarter.”

The Sistah Shop is now focusing on expanding its e-commerce platform to become the go-to online marketplace for Black women-owned brands. Think Amazon—but for us, by us.

With new brands joining, international shipping on the horizon, and big plans for the future, Aisha is just getting started.

A Legacy of Empowerment

As our conversation came to an end, I asked Aisha what keeps her going, even when things get tough. Her answer? Faith.

“It’s all about trusting God’s plan,” she said. “There have been so many times I wanted to quit, but then I remember why I started—to create a space for us, by us.”

Aisha’s journey is a reminder that when we pour into each other, we all rise.

This isn’t just about business—it’s about legacy. It’s about creating opportunities, building community, and showing the world that Black women belong in every space we step into.

So if you haven’t already, visit The Sistah Shop online, support a sister, and spread the word. Because when one of us wins, we all do.
