The latest episode of Amazon’s hit series “House of David” has left audiences in awe with its groundbreaking use of generative AI tools to create a mythical origin sequence for the character Goliath. The series creator and co-showrunner, Jon Erwin, spoke to Variety about the innovative approach taken in producing this visually stunning scene.
Erwin revealed that the use of generative AI tools was instrumental in bringing the sequence to life. Each AI tool brought unique strengths to the production process, allowing for the creation of photoreal visuals within a feasible budget and timeframe. Erwin highlighted the speed and efficiency provided by AI, enabling the team to collaborate in real-time and complete the sequence in a matter of weeks, as opposed to months using traditional methods.
The origin sequence in episode 6 presented a complex challenge for the VFX team, incorporating elements such as digital characters, simulations of rain, smoke, and wind. Erwin praised the AI tools for their ability to handle physics simulations with remarkable accuracy, surpassing traditional VFX tools in creating realistic effects.
