Istanbul-Based Distributor Releases Trailer for “El Turco” Starring Can Yaman

Istanbul-based distributor Madd Entertainment has unveiled the international trailer for the highly anticipated English-language drama “El Turco,” featuring Turkish superstar Can Yaman in the lead role of a legendary historical figure that connects Turkey with the Western world.

“El Turco” is a six-episode series that combines history, action-adventure, and romance, boasting a diverse cast of actors from nine different countries. The series is set to premiere today, March 21, on various platforms including Voyo in Romania, IVI in Russia, and Globoplay in Brazil. Viewers can catch a ten-minute teaser on Mediaset Infinity in Italy today, with the full release scheduled for March 27 on Mediaset’s Canale 5. The series will also air on Teleonce in Honduras on March 23, Gaín in Turkey on April 2, and Starz in the MENA region on April 18. Additional international playdates are still to be announced.

“El Turco” follows the story of 17th Ottoman soldier Hasan Balaban, played by Can Yaman, who finds himself in the Italian Alpine village of Moena after being wounded during the Turkish army’s campaign to conquer Vienna in 1683. Known as “El Turco” by the villagers, Hasan becomes a local hero after leading them in a revolt against unfair taxes.

Reflecting on the impact of his character, Can Yaman shared, “Now, Moena is a ski resort, but many people there still feel Turkish. There is a Turkish week, they pull out Turkish flags and there’s a statue of this man who’s celebrated as a hero.” He expressed his excitement for the project, stating, “When I first read the script, I got really excited.”

In addition to Can Yaman, the cast of “El Turco” includes Will Kemp, Greta Ferro, David Nykl, Kieran O’Reilly, Veronica Ferres, and Maddalena Aragão. The series is written by Kerem Deren and Çişil Hazal Tenim, directed by Uluç Bayraktar, and features production design by Domenico Sica and costumes by Carlo Poggioli.
