20 years for man who beat acquaintance to death with a pipe in NW Side drug house

Lukasz Wiercioch (Chicago Police Department)

Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Beating Acquaintance to Death in Drug-Related Incident

A judge handed down a 20-year prison sentence to Lukasz Wiercioch, 31, after he pleaded guilty to murder for fatally beating an acquaintance with a pipe inside a Northwest Side Chicago home where drug use was common.

On September 2, 2022, police responded to a 911 call at a residence in the 3300 block of North Panama and discovered 46-year-old Marcos Castro unconscious in the basement.

According to prosecutors, Wiercioch, Castro, and three others were at the residence, where drug use occurred. An altercation ensued when Castro became upset over his girlfriend’s interest in dating other people, including one of the men present.

Wiercioch and Castro engaged in an argument before Castro went downstairs, where he was later found unconscious. Witnesses reported hearing a “thud” sound before seeing Wiercioch strike Castro in the head with a metal object. Wiercioch and a witness fled the scene, with the latter leading police to a dumpster where Wiercioch discarded incriminating evidence.

During a search of the residence, law enforcement recovered metal pipes believed to have been used in the attack. Wiercioch must serve the entirety of his 20-year sentence.
