Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro reveals Trump called him to discuss arson attack: ‘Very gracious’

Democratic Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro recently shared that President Trump reached out to him over the weekend following an arson attack on the governor’s residence earlier this month. The incident, which occurred on April 13, resulted in a fire that destroyed the historic state-owned building’s dining room.

During the annual Easter Egg Hunt in Harrisburg, which marked the first public event at the governor’s mansion since the arson attack, Shapiro revealed that he missed Trump’s initial call as it came from the president’s cellphone number, which he did not recognize. However, Shapiro promptly returned the call upon hearing Trump’s message.

In their conversation, which lasted more than 15 minutes, Trump expressed concern for Shapiro’s wife, Lori, and their four children who were present during the attack. The president inquired about their well-being and the governor acknowledged Trump’s graciousness in reaching out.

Shapiro refrained from divulging the specifics of their discussion, citing the confidentiality of their private conversation. However, he mentioned that they touched on various topics important to both parties and agreed to keep in touch in the future.

The individual responsible for the arson attack, Cody Balmer, has been charged with arson, attempted murder, terrorism, and other offenses. During a 911 call confessing to the attack, Balmer allegedly made references to Shapiro’s purported plans regarding the Palestinian people. Authorities are investigating whether antisemitism played a role in motivating Balmer, with prosecutors considering hate crime charges due to Shapiro being Jewish.

The governor’s resilience in the face of adversity, along with the support extended by President Trump, highlights the importance of unity and solidarity in times of crisis. As the investigation into the arson attack continues, Shapiro remains committed to serving the people of Pennsylvania and upholding the values of tolerance and peace.
