Kristi Noem speaks out about getting her bag with $3,000 stolen

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had a frightening experience at a Washington restaurant when a thief attempted to steal her purse. Noem revealed that she initially felt something brush against her leg, assuming it was one of her grandchildren accidentally kicking her. However, she soon realized that her purse, containing $3,000, her DHS access card, passport, makeup bag, apartment key, and other valuables, had been snatched by a masked man.

In an interview on “The Vince Show” podcast, Noem described the incident as shocking, as the thief expertly hooked her purse with his foot, dragged it a few steps away, and cleverly concealed it with a coat before making off with it. She emphasized that the incident highlighted the prevalence of such crimes in communities and the need for increased vigilance.

Despite speculation that she may have been targeted due to her position as DHS secretary, Noem remained uncertain about the motive behind the theft. A DHS official clarified that Noem had withdrawn the cash to treat her family to Easter festivities, as her entire family was in town, including her children and grandchildren.

The Secret Service has launched an investigation into the incident, as confirmed by the DHS official. While the Secret Service refrained from providing further details, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department has not issued any statements regarding the case.

This brazen theft serves as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant and taking precautions to protect personal belongings, even in seemingly safe environments like restaurants. Noem’s ordeal sheds light on the pervasive nature of theft and the need for heightened security measures to ensure the safety of individuals and their possessions.
