Liberal Mark Carney poised to win Canada election amid Trump’s 51st state comments

Mark Carney Leads Liberals to Victory in Canadian Election
Canadian broadcasters have declared that Mark Carney has led the Liberals to victory in Canada’s election on Monday, although final seat totals are still pending.
As of 10:10 p.m. ET, the Liberals had secured victory or were leading in 123 out of 343 ridings, while Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives are set to remain in opposition with 88 ridings so far. To form a majority, parties need 172 seats, according to CTV News.
Carney’s win cements the Liberal Party’s decade in power, replacing former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who had been at the country’s helm since 2015. Carney took over as prime minister-elect when Trudeau resigned in March.
President Donald Trump made headlines on election day with a social media post suggesting that Canadians should vote for him to make Canada the 51st state. However, it’s important to note that Canadians cannot actually vote for Trump since he is not on the ballot.
There are 16 registered political parties in Canada, with the Liberals and Conservatives being the most prominent. Other parties include the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, the United Party, and the Canadian Future Party.
In response to Trump’s post, Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre firmly stated that Canadians will decide the future of their country at the ballot box and that Canada will always remain independent.
Carney, in a video posted on social media, emphasized that Canadians have the power to shape their own future, reinforcing the message of sovereignty and independence.
Canada operates under a parliamentary system, meaning that if the Liberals secure a majority of seats in the election or are able to form a minority government with support from other parties, Carney will continue to serve as prime minister.
With nearly all polls expected to close by 9:30 p.m. ET on Monday, the election results are eagerly anticipated to see the final makeup of Canada’s government.
