A beach day in March? Warm temps drive NYers to beaches of Coney Island

The warm weather on Saturday brought out sun worshippers to Coney Island, despite the strong winds. People took advantage of the 83-degree day, with some lounging on the sand and others enjoying the opening day of Luna Park. The last time New York City experienced such high temperatures in March was in 2021.
Bikinied women and bare-chested men were seen soaking up the sun on the beach, with children playing in the waves. Gal Zohar, who visited the beach with her daughter Alex, mentioned that they came for the Vitamin D and to enjoy the day out.
Teenagers in swimwear also made the most of the warm weather, with one young man stating, “You only live once,” as he lounged on the beach with friends. Mark Grippo and his son Wesley ventured out from Bensonhurst to enjoy the nice weather, even though they had plans to visit a different beach in Florida the following day.
Families like Eyal Maoz’s also made the trip to Coney Island to bask in the beautiful weather. Despite the strong winds, they set up a beach blanket and enjoyed the hot sun. Maoz mentioned that they might not stay long due to the wind, but they were making the most of the day.
Overall, the boardwalk was busier than usual for a March day, with dancers from Brooklyn United performing and stilt walkers greeting visitors outside the Cyclone. The warm weather was a welcome change, and many took the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors before the summer season officially kicks off.
