A Pakistani who wounded ex-Prime Minister Khan in 2022 attack is sentenced to life

KARACHI, Pakistan — A Pakistani man has been sentenced to life in prison for the attempted assassination of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in 2022. The attacker, Naveed Ahmad, shot Khan and killed one of his supporters during an incident in Wazirabad, Punjab province.
Khan, who was ousted from office in a no-confidence vote earlier that year, was targeted while on his way to a rally in Islamabad. Ahmad was apprehended shortly after the attack, which left Khan with a leg injury.
In addition to the assassination attempt, Khan is currently serving prison time for various offenses, including corruption, revealing official secrets, and violating marriage laws.
