Abandoned Sugar Mill factory near Longmont catches fire overnight

A fire broke out at the abandoned Sugar Mill factory near Longmont late at night on Tuesday and continued burning throughout the night, as reported by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival at the factory in the 11900 block of Sugar Mill Road in Longmont, deputies and fire crews found the two-story building already engulfed in flames, according to a news release. The factory, which ceased operations in 1977, was unable to be saved due to hazardous materials and adverse weather conditions.
Emergency crews were unable to extinguish the fire and instead focused on monitoring the blaze as it consumed the building overnight.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire and have closed Sugar Mill Road, urging the public to steer clear of the area.
The Mountain View Fire Department, Longmont Fire Department, Longmont Police Department, and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the fire in the early hours of the morning.
