Act of self defense for villages who killed 10 gang members in Mexico
In Texcapilla, Mexico, villagers who killed 10 members of the Familia Michoacana criminal gang were deemed to have acted in self-defense by prosecutors. The gang had tried to extort money from local farmers, leading to a confrontation on a football pitch where the gang members opened fire first. The farmers fought back with available tools including shotguns and machetes. This incident resulted in ten gang members and four locals being killed, with seven more injured. The villagers have been living in fear of reprisals since the incident.
