Over the weekend, Adele, the vocal powerhouse behind hits like “Rolling in the Deep,” had to momentarily step back from her performance during her Las Vegas residency, Weekends with Adele, owing to a severe episode of sciatica.

The 35-year-old artist revealed during her dazzling performance at Caesars Palace that a sudden flare-up of her spinal condition left her incapacitated. She told the audience that her backstage crew had to physically lift her up:

“They lifted my entire body off the ground.”

She went on to say that the condition had temporarily immobilized her, requiring her to take a breather:

“I need to sit down and give my sciatica a rest.”

For those unfamiliar with the condition, sciatica involves pain that follows the route of the sciatic nerve, starting from the lower back and extending through the hips, buttocks, and down each leg. The Mayo Clinic states that it commonly arises due to a herniated disk or a bony overgrowth that pressures a part of the nerve, leading to inflammation, pain, and sometimes numbness in the affected leg.

This situation happened during Adele’s comeback to her Las Vegas show after a one-month hiatus. Her residency is scheduled to wrap up in November.

Earlier in the year, Adele had discussed this ongoing health issue, mentioning that the pain in her legs was so severe at times it caused her to “waddle”:

“I have to waddle these days.”

About a month after, she reached out to the crowd to discuss her own experiences with physical discomfort, including issues with her knees and back. She even mentioned a slipped vertebra she suffered in 2021:

“Is anyone else my age starting to have issues with their knees? My L5 disc has essentially worn away, and I’m dealing with severe sciatica in my left leg.”

Despite the challenges posed by her medical condition, Adele remains committed to her year-long residency. Although physical activity appeared to alleviate her symptoms temporarily, the pain returned stronger than ever, as she acknowledged in an earlier performance this year:

“I had spoken earlier this year about my sciatica improving. Then, seemingly in response, it came back with a vengeance.”

Here’s hoping Adele finds the rest and treatment she needs to make a swift recovery. Feel free to express your well wishes in the comments section below.
