Aimee Lou Wood Says ‘SNL’ Impersonation Was ‘Mean and Unfunny’

Aimee Lou Wood, known for her breakout role in “White Lotus,” recently expressed her disappointment with a spoof of the show on a recent episode of “Saturday Night Live.” The parody featured Sarah Sherman portraying a exaggerated version of Wood’s character, Chelsea. Wood took to her Instagram Stories to voice her frustration, describing the spoof as “mean and unfunny.”

While Wood acknowledged that satire is a part of the show’s format, she believed that the portrayal could have been done in a more clever and nuanced way. The sketch primarily targeted Donald Trump’s inner circle in the midst of economic turmoil caused by tariffs. James Austin Johnson played the president, Chloe Fineman portrayed Melania Trump, Mikey Day took on the role of Donald Trump Jr., and Jon Hamm played Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

One of the key moments in the sketch featured Hamm’s RFK character suggesting the removal of fluoride from drinking water, to which Sherman’s Chelsea responded with exaggerated accent and false teeth. Wood received an outpouring of support from fans and even received apologies from “SNL” for the sketch.

Despite the backlash, the parody can be viewed in its entirety on “SNL.” Wood’s reaction serves as a reminder of the impact that satire can have and the importance of approaching sensitive topics with thoughtfulness and nuance. It also highlights the fine line between humor and offense in the realm of comedy.
