Alex Hooper Sets Stand-Up Comedy Special ‘Brace Yourself’ About Cancer

Comedian Alex Hooper to Release New Stand-Up Special on March 18
Comedian Alex Hooper is gearing up to release a brand new stand-up special on March 18. The special, titled “Brace Yourself,” will be distributed by Comedy Dynamics and will be available to watch on various platforms including YouTube, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and more.
In this hour-long special, Hooper dives into his personal journey with cancer, offering a brutally honest and humorous take on confronting the most terrifying thing imaginable. According to a press release, the special promises a funny, outrageous, and occasionally wildly inappropriate perspective on the challenges he faced during his Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma diagnosis.
Hooper uses comedy to shed light on his experiences with fear, hospitals, navigating the medical system, and dealing with the overwhelming bills that come with a cancer diagnosis. While the special focuses on his cancer journey, it also delves into embracing life’s absurdities and maintaining optimism during dark times.
Known for his appearances on “America’s Got Talent,” where he made it to the quarter-finals, Hooper gained recognition for his unique style and comedic flair. His credits also include shows like “New Girl,” “Corporate,” “Roast Battle,” and “Bad Girls Club.”
Prior to this upcoming special, Hooper released his debut comedy album “Hugs. Drugs. Pugs.” in 2018, followed by “Calm Down, Peasants” in 2022. In addition, he authored the book “Roast Yourself To Happiness: A Comedian’s Guide to Embracing Your Flaws” in 2021.
CEO of Comedy Dynamics, Brian Volk-Weiss, expressed excitement about sharing Alex’s new special with the world, calling it a testament to his courage and resilience as a comedian. “Brace Yourself” was filmed at the Bijou Theater in Bridgeport, Conn., and is executive produced and directed by Myke Fuhrman, with Kevin Mezick serving as co-producer.
