Brian Davis offers to buy Washington Commanders for $7 Billion
Brian Davis, a Black investor from the Washington DC area, has presented a counteroffer to Magic Johnson’s group’s $6 billion bid to buy the NFL’s Washington Commanders. Davis has reportedly submitted a solo bid to buy the team for $7 billion. He is the founder of Urban Echo Energy LLC, a Black-owned developer of renewable energy assets, and a former minority owner of DC United, a major league soccer team. Davis also played college basketball at Duke University and in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the early 90s.
WUSA9 reports that Davis has offered to pay $1 billion to the team’s current owner, Dan Snyder, within 24 hours and $6 billion within seven days. He claims to have raised the capital by selling his own intellectual property, reportedly worth $50 billion. Bank of America, which is handling the sale, is still in talks with Davis about the deal, which has not yet been finalized. If successful, Davis would become the NFL’s first-ever Black majority owner.
