Brownstone Worldwide Network: Arrest Made in Connection with Fatal Shooting of Black Florida Mother After Door Knock

The Brownstone Worldwide Network has learned of a recent arrest in connection with the tragic death of Ajike “AJ” Owens, a Black mother who was fatally shot in central Florida last week. According to a spokesperson from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Susan Louise Lorincz, a 58-year-old White woman, has been taken into custody on several charges, including manslaughter with a firearm, culpable negligence, battery, and two counts of assault. At this time, it is unclear whether Lorincz has legal representation.

Authorities state that Owens was shot through her neighbor’s door near Ocala, Florida, on Friday. Prior to the shooting, Owens’ family and legal representatives had called for the arrest and charging of her assailant. The family also alleges that Lorincz directed racial slurs at Owens’ children and engaged in confrontational behavior before the incident. In her defense, Lorincz claims that she acted in self-defense, stating that Owens attempted to forcibly enter her residence before she discharged her firearm. The sheriff’s office, however, has deemed Lorincz’s actions unjustifiable under Florida law, based on their investigation, which included testimonies from eyewitnesses who recently came forward.

Prosecutors have been collaborating with investigators in Marion County to determine the appropriate charges in this case, according to Fifth Judicial Chief Assistant State Attorney Walter Forgie. Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods, while considering Florida’s “stand your ground” law, explained that the arrest was contingent upon thoroughly examining all perspectives and conducting interviews, including those with Owens’ children who witnessed the tragic event.

The investigation revealed that Owens knocked on Lorincz’s door to address an incident where Lorincz allegedly threw a pair of skates at Owens’ children, resulting in at least one child being struck, according to Sheriff Woods.

Owens’ family has consistently asserted that her killing was unwarranted. Owens’ mother, Pamela Dias, stated, “My daughter, the mother of my grandchildren, was shot and killed with her 9-year-old son standing next to her. She posed no imminent threat to anyone and did not possess a weapon.”

Owens’ family, along with their attorneys Ben Crump and Anthony Thomas, are scheduled to hold a press conference on Wednesday to address the ongoing developments in this tragic case.
