Carnage as car collides with cattle

State Highway 1 north of Dunedin was reduced to one lane after a collision between two cars and multiple cattle beasts. Emergency services were on the scene working to clear the wreckage.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews from Palmerston and Hampden responded to the crash at around 9.10pm. The incident took place near the Moeraki township turnoff when a car struck several cattle on the road.

As a result of the initial collision, the vehicle then collided with another car, causing further damage. Police and Ambulance services were also called to the scene.

Traffic on State Highway 1 near the Moeraki turnoff was restricted to one lane while cleanup efforts were underway. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to any humans involved in the crash.
