Channel 4 CEO Alex Mahon to Step Down in Summer
After nearly eight years at the helm, Channel 4 CEO Alex Mahon has announced that she will be stepping down from her position and leaving the business in the summer of this year. Mahon, who joined the U.K. network in 2017 as its first female CEO, has overseen a period of significant change and success for the channel.
During her tenure, Channel 4 has faced challenges such as privatization attempts and shifts in viewing habits. Despite these obstacles, the network has produced groundbreaking programs like “It’s a Sin” and “Russell Brand: Dispatches,” as well as supported a number of impactful films through its Film4 arm.
Mahon expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to lead Channel 4, stating, “Working at Channel 4 has been a lifetime privilege because Channel 4 is the most extraordinary organization. What we get to do here is much more than television because we reflect our country with humor, creativity, grit, and care.”
Channel 4’s Chief Operating Officer, Jonathan Allan, will be stepping in as interim CEO while the board searches for a permanent successor. Dawn Airey, Channel 4’s Interim Chair, praised Mahon for her leadership and commitment to the network’s public service mission.
Airey stated, “Alex is a great figure in British television. She has been one of the most impactful CEOs since Jeremy Isaacs’ founding of Channel 4 more than 42 years ago. Her commitment to Channel 4’s public service mission has been unwavering.”
As Channel 4 prepares for a new chapter under new leadership, Mahon’s legacy of innovation and creativity will undoubtedly continue to influence the network for years to come.
