Congress Trying to Ram Through $50 Billion More for Ukraine Before GOP Takes Control of the House

[ad_1]

Lawmakers from both parties are reportedly seeking to lock in a staggering $50 billion in additional military aid for Ukraine before a new Congress is sworn in this January.

The move is yet another indication that your elected senators and representatives no longer view the American people as their top priority, but rather, the government of a corrupt Eastern European nation is their new baby.

NBC News reports that multiple sources have confirmed ongoing discussions regarding a government funding bill during the lame-duck session following the election.

The report does not indicate which Republican lawmakers are on board with the idea and which are opposed.

But the funding concept is being pursued “amid concerns that a new Congress could take a more skeptical view of aid to Ukraine.”

Ukraine Poised to Get Billions More

At this stage of the game, the United States should just go ahead and make it official by submitting adoption papers for Ukraine.

NBC News notes that the Biden administration “has not yet made a formal request for new funding.”

But guess who did? The prodigal son, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. And it just so happens that the amount he requested and the amount Congress is reportedly considering are very close.

Zelensky insisted Ukraine would need an additional $55 billion in aid to combat budget and infrastructure matters brought about by the Russian invasion.

“At this time, we have two key financial needs of the country,” he said. “That’s $38 billion to make up for the deficit of our budget for next year and other $17 billion that were verified by the World Bank and needed to rebuild the critical infrastructure.”

And, like patrons at Scores in New York City seeing the latest performer walk out on stage, lawmakers are so smitten with Zelensky that they’re simply willing to throw money at him, no matter how absurdly large the figure.

Except, it isn’t their money. It’s taxpayer money.

Endless Money for an Endless War

An additional $50 billion in aid to Ukraine nearly doubles the amount the United States has provided and, as one Republican senator told NBC, would make previous amounts “look like pocket change.”

Zelensky just weeks ago got a green light from Congress for an additional $12 billion in aid to Ukraine, along with having the Senate pass a $40 billion aid package in May on top of a $14 billion package in March.

In all, that would amount to $116 billion should the additional funding go through before new members of Congress are sworn in.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson slammed Zelensky for trying to ‘shake down’ Congress for more money.

“Some uppity foreigner in a T-shirt demanding money for his critical economic needs. We have critical economic needs too, buddy,” Carlson railed. “Who are you, troll? Go away.”

He added: “Since when does that guy have a claim on our Treasury?”

The answer to that – When Congress started writing blank checks for his war effort, with your money.

Senator Rand Paul has been a rare voice of opposition to providing a blank check to Ukraine with no accountability, especially during perilous economic times for the American people.

“It’s threatening our own national security, and it’s frankly a slap in the face to millions of taxpayers who are struggling to buy gas, groceries, and find baby formula,” Paul said while temporarily blocking the $40 billion aid package last Spring.

Do you know who else this is a slap in the face to? The men and women of the U.S. military.

Just last month the Army told active-duty American soldiers to go on food stamps if they were unable to afford food thanks to soaring inflation rates under President Biden.

Food stamps for American soldiers, endless billions for Ukraine. This is your country now. And there is no end in sight.

Over the summer, President Biden was asked by a reporter, “How long is it fair to expect American drivers and drivers around the world to pay that premium for this war?”

His response?

Meanwhile, Hollywood celebrities and actors took the time to host a star-studded spectacle aimed at raising funds for Ukraine. Because they weren’t getting enough free money from our lawmakers already.

Ukraine gets billions plus a celebrity fundraiser while Americans get $100+ fillups at the gas station and a grocery bill that resembles the cost of a flight into space.

But hey, we’ll always have our lentils …

Remember in 2019, after then-President Trump had declared a national emergency at the southern border, Congress refused to provide a mere $5 billion to build the wall.

It was too much they said. It wasn’t necessary they said.

Do you think they’d reject such a notion if Zelensky told them Ukraine needed a wall to protect its own border from Russia?
