Doc accused of trying to throw wife off Hawaii cliff charged with attempted murder, bail set at $5M

Dr. Gerhardt Konig, a 46-year-old anesthesiologist, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to push his wife off a cliff and hitting her with a rock when she refused to take a photo with him at the Pali Lookout in Hawaii. The incident occurred on Monday, and Konig was arrested shortly after the attack.
Konig’s wife, Arielle Konig, a 36-year-old nuclear engineer, was left in critical condition with multiple facial and head injuries after the violent assault. Konig is currently being held on a $5 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
According to reports, Konig and his wife were hiking along the Pali Puka trail when he became agitated after she declined to take a picture with him. He then allegedly attempted to push her off the trail, punched her, and struck her with a rock. At one point, he even tried to jab her with two syringes.
Konig’s attorney, Myles Breiner, expressed shock at his client’s behavior, stating that Konig had no prior record of violence. Konig has since been suspended from his job as an anesthesiologist by his employer, Maui Health.
The Honolulu Police Department responded to the scene and rushed Arielle Konig to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, Gerhardt Konig was apprehended near Pali Highway after a brief foot pursuit.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, leaving many puzzled as to why Konig would engage in such violent behavior. The couple’s idyllic day at the Pali Lookout quickly turned into a nightmare, with Arielle fighting for her life and Konig facing serious criminal charges.
The shocking incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many questioning how a respected doctor could commit such a heinous act. As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge about the events leading up to the attempted murder at the scenic Hawaiian cliff.
