‘Escort Boys’ Producer on Taking the Raunchy Comedy on ‘Darker’ Ground

The highly anticipated second season of Prime Video’s provocative comedy series “Escort Boys” is making its world premiere today at Canneseries, promising a darker and more intense storyline that delves deeper into the complex dynamics of gender power in the post #MeToo era.
Based on the Israeli show “Johnny and the Knights of Galilee” (“Milk and Honey”) and helmed by director Ruben Alves, the half-hour comedy follows the journey of four young men who turn to escorting to save their family business in a picturesque town in Southern France.
Season 1 of the series was a success, tackling themes such as romantic love, female sexuality, and toxic masculinity. The show garnered international attention, with Wild Bunch TV acquiring sales rights for both seasons and France’s TF1 securing second-window rights.
Producer Myriam Gharbi-de Vasselot of Oberkampf Productions describes Season 2 as a departure from the original format, emphasizing it as a true creative endeavor. The new season reunites Alves with writer Yaël Lebrati and introduces actor Louis Pénicaut to the ensemble.
The storyline picks up six months after the events of Season 1, with the main characters forced back into escorting after a failed hotel venture leaves them in debt and on the brink of losing everything. The season will explore the consequences and limitations of prostitution, addressing issues such as sex addiction and trauma recovery.
While Season 2 promises a more dramatic tone, Gharbi-de Vasselot assures viewers that there will still be moments of comedy and levity, with guest appearances from acclaimed actors like Josiane Balasko and Thibault De Montalembert.
The series is set to premiere on Prime Video in France on June 13, followed by releases in Italy, Spain, Germany, and the U.K. Gharbi-de Vasselot is also working on a slate of new projects with various partners and talents, including adaptations of bestselling books and female-led series projects.
With its blend of drama, humor, and social commentary, “Escort Boys” Season 2 promises to continue pushing boundaries and sparking important conversations about love, sexuality, and the complexities of modern relationships.
