Founder of Cash App, Tech executive Bob Lee, dead after apparent stabbing attack in San Francisco
Bob Lee, the founder of Cash App and former CTO of Square, has passed away at the age of 43 after an apparent stabbing attack in San Francisco. The news of Lee’s death was confirmed by Josh Goldbard, the CEO of MobileCoin, where Lee worked as chief product officer.
Lee was a tech executive known for his contributions to the development of Cash App, a popular digital payments platform. He was also a respected figure in the cryptocurrency industry and was instrumental in the launch of MobileCoin.
Goldbard described Lee as “a dynamo, a force of nature” who was “made for the world that is being born right now.” He added that Lee was “a child of dreams” and “whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real.”
Lee’s father, Rick Lee, also confirmed his son’s death in a statement on Facebook, writing, “I just lost my best friend.” He described his son as someone who “would give you the shirt off his back” and “adhered to a strict no-judgment philosophy.”
San Francisco Mayor London Breed expressed her condolences, calling Lee’s death “a horrible tragedy.” She said that the police are still investigating the incident and would be sharing more details soon.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the Rincon area of San Francisco early Tuesday morning. They found “a 43-year-old adult male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds.” Despite efforts by first responders and medical personnel, Lee succumbed to his injuries.
The police have not made any arrests in connection with the incident, and the investigation is still ongoing. San Francisco has seen an uptick in crime since the pandemic began, with 12 homicides reported so far this year.
