French Actor In Sex Abuse Trial

French actor Gerard Depardieu, currently on trial for sexual assault, vehemently denied the allegations against him in a Paris court on Tuesday. He dismissed the #MeToo movement as a “reign of terror” and stated that he was not someone who engaged in such behavior.

Depardieu, who has appeared in over 200 films and television series, is facing charges of sexual assault during the filming of a movie in 2021. Despite being accused by around 20 women, this is the first case to go to trial.

The actor, known for his roles in both French and Hollywood productions, declared his innocence in the packed courtroom and criticized the #MeToo movement as a form of intimidation.

During the trial, Depardieu recounted the events that led to the allegations, claiming that his actions were misunderstood. He stated that the accusations against him were unfounded and that he did not engage in any inappropriate behavior.

Witnesses, including other actors from the film, are expected to testify in support of Depardieu. The trial has been postponed in the past due to the actor’s health issues.

Depardieu rose to fame in the 1980s with acclaimed performances in French cinema before gaining international recognition in Hollywood. Despite the ongoing legal battle, he remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.
