French PM Defies Trump Tariffs

France’s Prime Minister Francois Bayrou emphasized that European countries will stand firm against the threats of steep tariffs on wine and champagne imports made by US President Donald Trump.

During a trade forum, Bayrou stated, “It is important for us Europeans to show our resilience and not give in to such threats.”

Trump’s warning of imposing 200% tariffs on wine, champagne, and other alcohol imports from EU nations was in response to the EU’s planned tariffs on American whiskey. This exchange marks the escalation of a trade dispute that began during Trump’s presidency.
