Google April Pixel Drop: Only One New Feature For Phones

Google Pixel phones have always been a favorite among users, thanks to their regular Pixel Drops that bring new features every month. However, the latest update for April seems a bit quieter than usual, with only one new feature being introduced. Despite this, Pixel phone users can still look forward to the new Gemini Live feature, which promises to revolutionize the way we interact with the AI assistant.

Gemini Live allows users to show Gemini what they are looking at through the phone’s camera or share their screen to ask questions or seek advice. For example, in a short video demonstration, someone is seen asking Gemini to identify a shark at an aquarium. This feature essentially acts as a knowledgeable companion by your side, ready to provide information at your fingertips.

The camera and screen sharing feature is available for all Pixel 9 users, across all models, at no additional cost. Alternatively, it is also available to users with a Gemini Advanced subscription, making it accessible to a wider audience beyond just Pixel 9 phones.

In addition to the Gemini Live feature, April’s Pixel Drop also brings another update, this time for Pixel Watch 2 and Watch 3 users. The new Scam Detection feature, previously available on Pixel phones, is now making its way to the Pixel watches. This feature helps users identify and avoid calls from suspicious sources, although Google acknowledges that it may not be foolproof.

For users in the US who are connected to a Pixel 9 via Bluetooth and speak English, the Pixel Watch will alert them to potential scam calls by receiving a signal from the connected phone. This allows users to be notified of a scam call even while on the go, without needing to take out their phone.

Overall, the new features introduced in April’s Pixel Drop may be fewer in number compared to previous updates, but they still bring valuable enhancements to the Pixel phone and watch experience. Whether it’s the interactive Gemini Live feature or the essential Scam Detection feature, Google continues to prioritize user convenience and security in its product updates.
