Google Gemini AI Available to Kids With Parental Controls

Google’s Gemini AI Assistant Now Available for Kids
Google is expanding its Gemini AI assistant to children under the age of 13, aiming to enhance their learning and assist with homework assignments. Parents of Family Link-supervised kids have received emails informing them about the upcoming availability of Gemini apps on Android, iOS, and web platforms.
While Google is introducing this new feature, it has also provided guidance and precautions for parents to manage their children’s access to the AI assistant.
Google’s Advice on Gemini for Kids
Google advises parents to be cautious as Gemini is still evolving and may not always filter inappropriate content effectively. It encourages parents to teach their children to think critically about Gemini’s responses, reminding them that the AI is not human and can make mistakes. Parents are also urged to double-check Gemini’s responses and not disclose sensitive or personal information to the assistant.
Activating or Deactivating Gemini for Kids
Google’s cautionary advice suggests that Gemini may not be foolproof, but parents have the ability to control their child’s access to the AI assistant. To activate or deactivate Gemini for kids, parents can easily do so through the Family Link website or app. By selecting the child’s profile, navigating to Controls > Gemini > Gemini Apps, parents can toggle the feature on or off as needed.
