In Gwinnett County, a significant series of ATM robberies has led to the theft of several hundred thousand dollars. The Gwinnett County Police Department’s Robbery Unit has identified two suspects in these robberies. One of the suspects, Danzil Earl, 30, of Atlanta, was arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on November 27 on one count of robbery. The second suspect, Ronnie Lewis, 31, from Texas, remains at large with an active warrant for his arrest.
The series of robberies began on September 9, when Gwinnett police officers responded to a robbery at a bank on Jimmy Carter Boulevard in unincorporated Norcross. In this instance, two suspects robbed an ATM technician who was making repairs to the machine. Similar robberies were later reported on September 13 at an ATM on Hampton Green in Duluth, and another at a bank in Forsyth County on September 22.
The charges against Earl and Lewis were made after investigators reviewed footage from Flock cameras and social media accounts. The police have indicated that additional charges might be filed as the investigation progresses.
This series of ATM robberies in Gwinnett and Forsyth counties, involving substantial financial losses, highlights a significant challenge for local law enforcement in dealing with sophisticated criminal activities targeting ATMs. The ongoing investigation and the search for the remaining suspect underscore the seriousness of these crimes and the efforts being made to bring the perpetrators to justice.
