Illegal migrant with 9 prior busts sneaks into NYC high school, randomly gropes female student, 16: sources

An illegal migrant with a history of criminal behavior was apprehended at a Brooklyn high school this week after allegedly groping a 16-year-old girl. José Duran Enrique, a 45-year-old man from Nicaragua, entered the High School of Telecommunication Arts and Technology in Bay Ridge on Tuesday morning and inappropriately touched the teenage student before being confronted by a teacher.
The teacher quickly intervened and instructed Duran Enrique to leave the premises. However, the perpetrator fled the scene but was soon apprehended by law enforcement officers later that morning. He was subsequently charged with burglary, forcible touching, endangering the welfare of a child, and harassment.
During his arraignment, prosecutors requested a high bail amount for Duran Enrique due to his extensive criminal record. He has a total of nine prior arrests, including recent charges for trespassing in Queens and criminal trespass in another incident. Despite the prosecution’s request for a significant bail amount, the judge ordered Duran Enrique to be held on a lower bail or bond.
This is not the first time Duran Enrique has had run-ins with the law. In the past, he has been arrested for offenses such as petit larceny, burglary, and grand larceny in various locations across New York City. He has also been issued desk appearance tickets for possession of a stolen credit card and grand larceny.
Interestingly, Duran Enrique’s criminal history extends beyond New York City. He was originally apprehended by Customs and Border Protection in Texas in 2022. After being released on parole into the United States, he spent over a year in Immigration and Customs Enforcement Custody before bonding out in 2024.
The incident at the high school highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in dealing with repeat offenders and illegal migrants with criminal backgrounds. It also underscores the importance of ensuring the safety and security of students in educational institutions.
