I’m Not Incapacitated. End My Guardianship

Wendy Williams made a dramatic call into “The View” on the March 14 episode, where she expressed her frustration with her current guardianship situation. The radio and television icon, who entered a court-appointed guardianship in 2022, told her guardian Sabrina Morrissey and the judge who declared her “legally incapacitated” to “get off my neck” and declared, “I need a new guardian.”
During the call, Williams explained that she had recently been moved from her assisted living facility to a hospital due to feeling unwell. She mentioned that she had some blood drawn from her thyroid and emphasized that it was her choice to seek an independent evaluation regarding her incapacitation, which she vehemently denies having.
The former talk show host revealed that she has been living on a locked memory unit floor where she is not allowed to do much besides staying in her room. She expressed confusion about why she was placed in a unit with elderly individuals who struggle with memory loss when she does not face the same challenges.
Despite claims from her guardian’s lawyer that she is receiving excellent medical care and has not been kept from her family, Williams maintained her stance that she is not incapacitated and demanded to be released from the restrictions imposed on her.
This call to “The View” marked Williams’ highest-profile return to broadcast television since the conclusion of “The Wendy Williams Show” in June 2022. Her departure from the show was due to medical issues related to lymphedema and Graves’ disease. In 2024, Williams was diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, conditions that affect her language, communication abilities, behavior, and cognitive functions.
Williams has been vocal about her objections to the guardianship arrangement and has described feeling like she is in a prison. She has also expressed distrust towards her guardian, Sabrina E. Morrissey, whom she accuses of holding her hostage.
Despite her health challenges, Williams has asserted her mental competency and claimed to have passed mental competency tests with flying colors. She is determined to exit her conservatorship and regain control over her life.
It is clear that Wendy Williams is facing a difficult and contentious situation regarding her guardianship, and it remains to be seen how this ongoing legal battle will unfold.
