Is Spotify Down? How to Check Service Status
Many Spotify users are currently facing issues with the popular music streaming service. If you’re experiencing problems with Spotify and wondering if it’s just you, here’s how to check the service status.
In today’s digital age, it can be frustrating when services like Spotify go offline. However, it’s essential to determine whether the issue lies with Spotify itself or with other factors like your internet connection.
16 April 2025: A major outage has been reported on Spotify, starting at 1pm BST (8am ET). The estimated time for issue resolution is currently unknown.
Update 5pm BST: Although Spotify has not provided an official update, it appears that the service is back up for most users. However, some users may still be experiencing difficulties. Personally, I can stream music and use the search function without any problems.
According to Downdetector, a reliable source for service status information, tens of thousands of users in both the UK and US have reported issues with Spotify.
Spotify’s official Status account on Twitter has acknowledged the issues and stated that they are currently investigating the issue.
We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!
Another update at 3:39 BST confirms that Spotify is actively working to resolve the outage, with no specific time frame provided. The company has also clarified that the issue is not related to a security breach.
We are aware of the outage and working to resolve it as soon as possible. The reports of this being a security hack are false.
A spokesperson for Spotify informed TechRadar that they have addressed the issue with the search function and are rolling out an update to all users. However, it appears that the problem may be more widespread than initially anticipated.
While some users can still play downloaded music, others are unable to even load Spotify on a desktop browser. An error message stating “upstream request timeout” is being displayed for some users.
