J.J. Watt moving to CBS booth in major NFL media shakeup

Football fans can look forward to a fresh pairing on their screens this fall as J.J. Watt joins Ian Eagle in the CBS broadcast booth. The dynamic duo will form CBS’s No. 2 broadcast team, with Eagle’s former partner, Charles Davis, transitioning to the role of lead college football analyst starting in 2026.

Davis will continue to be a part of the “NFL on CBS” broadcast announcing team for the upcoming season, maintaining his presence in the football broadcasting realm. Meanwhile, Watt, a former five-time All-Pro NFL defensive end, is making the leap from studio analysis to in-game commentary after spending the last two years as part of the “NFL Today” crew following his retirement in 2022.

The 36-year-old Watt recently dipped his toes into the broadcast booth on Christmas Day, calling a game on Netflix alongside Eagle. Expressing his excitement for the new role, Watt stated, “There is nothing better than the energy and excitement of being in the stadium on game day in the NFL.” He added, “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to return to that atmosphere each week, working with one of the best in Ian.”

In a post on social media platform X, Watt shared his enthusiasm for the new partnership, hinting at a promising start to their collaboration. The post included a humorous text exchange between Watt and Eagle, showcasing their camaraderie and banter as they prepare for their upcoming broadcasts.

Having played 11 seasons in the NFL, with ten years at the Texans and his final two at the Cardinals, Watt’s extensive experience as a player brings a unique perspective to his new role as an analyst. As he gears up for his eligibility for the Pro Football Hall of Fame ballot in 2028, Watt’s transition to the broadcast booth marks a new chapter in his post-playing career.

Fans can look forward to Watt and Eagle’s chemistry and insights as they provide commentary on games throughout the upcoming season. The combination of Watt’s passion for the game and Eagle’s seasoned broadcasting skills promises an exciting viewing experience for football enthusiasts tuning in to CBS broadcasts.
