JCPenney will release another Black History Month collection to honor the company’s first anniversary with Hope & Wonder, a private label brand created to commemorate “cultural observances.”
Clothes, accessories, and house products are usually included. When JCPenney launched Hope & Wonder last year, the company contributed $100,000 of its sales to a nonprofit organization called Black Girls Smile.
On January 9, JCPenney’s Hope & Wonder announced that it is collaborating with Black Girls Smile again. Black Girls Smile is an organization that provides Black women with education, resources, and support to lead mentally healthy lives, according to their website. They plan to donate this year’s Black History Month collection earnings to a nonprofit.
Lauren Carson, founder of Black Girls Smile, expressed her happiness with JCPenney’s continued support of her company.
“Black Girls Smile is extremely excited to partner with JCPenney for the second year to celebrate Black History Month,” she said. BGS’s continued partnership with us helps them expand their programming and initiatives focused on uplifting and empowering the mental health and well-being of Black women and girls. Thank you to JCPenney’s team and community for your continued support and encouragement of Black history and wellness.
The Black History Month collection was developed by JCPenney’s BIPOC designers. The ads seen online and in stores included several individuals and their families. “It was important for JCPenney to create these pieces because it wanted to impact ‘the lives of diverse American families’ positively,” said Andre Joyner, the company’s Chief Human Resources Officer, since then.
“JCPenney continues to pull inspiration from not only our customers’ wants and needs, but from our dedicated associates and their families,” he said. We believe in honoring Black History Month and other cultural moments that resonate deeply with our associates and are committed to making a positive impact within the lives of diverse American families.
The Hope & Wonder Black History Month collection from JCPenney is on sale now.
