Jessica Simpson Says ‘World Had Been Turned Upside Down’ With Split

Jessica Simpson recently revealed that she wrote her EP, Nashville Canyon, Part 1, while going through a separation from her husband, Eric Johnson. During her set at the Luck Reunion festival in Texas, Simpson shared that she was in Nashville with her heart wide open, asking personal questions and realizing that her world had been turned upside down. She bravely admitted, “I am now a very single lady.”
Simpson and Johnson had been together since 2010 and share three children together: Maxwell, Ace, and Birdie. In January, the couple announced their separation after 10 years of marriage. Simpson explained, “Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage. Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them.”
Despite the challenges in their relationship, Simpson expressed gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time. She emphasized that their children remain their top priority as they work through their separation as a family.
Using her music as an outlet for her emotions, Simpson poured her heart into her EP, Nashville Canyon, Part 1. The album, set to release later this month, reflects her post-breakup journey and introspective moments. Simpson shared that opening her heart led to vulnerability and healing, allowing her to find answers through writing, singing, and connecting with herself.
During her performance at the Luck Reunion festival, Simpson treated fans to new tracks like “Use My Heart Against Me,” “Sunday Lover,” and “Leave,” as well as a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s classic, “These Boots Were Made For Walking.” This marked Simpson’s first live concert in 15 years, showcasing her resilience and passion for music.
While Nashville Canyon may feature emotionally charged ballads, Simpson and Johnson remain committed to co-parenting their children and maintaining an amicable relationship. Simpson reflected on her growth and ability to handle challenges, expressing gratitude for the love and support she receives from her family, including Eric. She acknowledged that despite the ups and downs, she considers herself lucky to have her children and Eric still in her life.
As fans eagerly await the release of Nashville Canyon, Part 1 on March 21, Simpson’s journey of self-discovery and resilience continues to inspire others through her music and personal experiences.
