Jio Signs Deal With Elon Musk’s SpaceX To Offer Starlink Services In India

New Delhi:

Jio Platforms Limited, a digital services company under the Reliance Group, has announced a partnership with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s broadband internet services to customers in India. The agreement is contingent upon SpaceX receiving approval to offer Starlink in the country.

This collaboration follows a similar agreement between SpaceX and Jio’s competitor, Bharti Airtel, signed just a day earlier. Mathew Oommen, the Group CEO of Reliance Jio, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “Our collaboration with SpaceX to bring Starlink to India strengthens our commitment and marks a transformative step toward seamless broadband connectivity for all.”

Through this partnership, Jio and SpaceX aim to explore how Starlink can enhance Jio’s existing services and vice versa. Starlink solutions will be made available through Jio’s retail outlets and online platforms, extending reliable broadband services to even the most remote areas of the country.

Not only will Jio offer Starlink equipment in its stores, but it will also provide customer service support for installation and activation. The collaboration is part of Jio’s dedication to ensuring widespread access to reliable internet for businesses, communities, and enterprises across India.

Starlink’s high-speed internet services will complement Jio’s existing offerings like JioAirFiber and JioFiber, providing connectivity to challenging locations in a cost-effective manner. Jio and SpaceX are also exploring other areas of cooperation to further enhance India’s digital ecosystem.

Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX, commended Jio’s efforts to advance connectivity in India, stating, “We are looking forward to working with Jio and obtaining authorization from the Government of India to expand access to Starlink’s high-speed internet services.”
