Jury finds Donald Trump guilty of sexually abusing columnist E Jean Carroll
Breaking news from Brownstone Worldwide News:
A New York jury’s decision that former US President Donald Trump sexually abused advice columnist E Jean Carroll is a groundbreaking ruling. The jury deliberated for under three hours before delivering its verdict that Trump committed sexual abuse against Carroll in a department store changing room 27 years ago, without her consent and for his own sexual gratification.
While the verdict does not carry a criminal charge, the ruling does mark the first time that a former US president has been legally branded a sexual predator. The court awarded $5m in punitive and compensatory damages, $2m for the sexual abuse count and almost $3m for defamation, as Trump had previously branded Carroll a liar. Carroll expressed her happiness following the verdict, and Trump’s critics, such as conservative lawyer George Conway, also expressed their congratulations to Carroll and her legal team. However, Trump’s representatives did not immediately respond to the verdict.
