At a recent Sotheby’s auction, a jersey worn by Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant sold for $5.8 million.
Sotheby’s reported that the basketball jersey worn by Kobe Bryant during his MVP season (2007-2008) set a record for a Kobe Bryant item at their auction house. Although it comes in second place for the highest price paid for a basketball jersey, it was the “most valuable Bryant item ever sold.”

Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls jersey holds the record for the highest-priced basketball jersey ever sold at Sotheby’s and overall. The jersey worn by the six-time NBA champion for the opening game of the 1998 NBA Finals was sold at Sotheby’s for over $10 million in September 2022.
The expected price for Bryant’s jersey when it was first listed was between $5 and $7 million.
According to Sotheby’s website, Bryant wore this basketball jersey from the start of the season in 2007 until May 29, 2008, when the Western Conference Finals concluded. This particular jersey was worn by the five-time NBA champion in five pre-season games, 14 regular season games, and six playoff games.
Bryant won five NBA championships, earned two Finals MVP awards, and was named the 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player. He achieved an impressive milestone in his career, being the youngest player to reach 30,000 points, and making the All-Star team 18 times. In his final game in 2016, Bryant scored an NBA-season-high 60 points before retiring.
On January 26, 2020, the 41-year-old basketball legend and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, tragically died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, CA, along with seven other people.
