Kyrie Irving may be out for a while due to injury
Kyrie Irving’s injury has the potential to be a serious blow to the Nets’ momentum.
Irving has been added to Brooklyn’s injury report with a calf issue, after being held out of just one of the team’s last 15 games (rest). The Nets have posted a 12-3 record since Irving returned to the lineup from a team-mandated suspension, including six straight and 10 of 11 prior to the news regarding his calf.
Here’s what we know about Irving’s status with the Nets moving forward as Brooklyn looks to continue its surge toward the top of the East standings.
Irving was a late scratch with right calf tightness less than an hour before a meeting with the Warriors on Dec. 21.
After Irving’s pre-game workout on Dec. 21, he first noted calf tightness to head coach Jacque Vaughn. The decision to hold him out of the game was made after he was checked by the team’s training staff.
In Brooklyn’s most recent outing, Irving scored 38 points in 34 minutes of action and showed few signs of discomfort in a win over the Pistons on Dec. 18.
Irving is averaging 26.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists over 22 games this season.
The Nets training staff will determine Irving’s status moving forward based on the results of further testing and the nature of his calf tightness.
The Nets will begin their road trip in Cleveland, where Irving’s career began.
